Children are naturally flexible with vivid imaginations, unhindered by fear and full of instinctive wisdom. They are in tune with the natural environment and adapt to various situations that they are faced with. The purpose of Yoga TOTTS is to teach children how to nurture and maintain these innate qualities in a fun and empowering environment, so that they become second nature. By preserving the openness of their bodies, minds and hearts, they are less likely to be affected by external conditioning and social pressures, and more able to transition through life’s more challenging phases- puberty, adolescence, adulthood and beyond – with grace and ease. Various techniques are used to teach Yoga TOTTSs classes, which cater for children between the ages of 3 – 11 years: engaging story-telling, where students become the characters and act out the story, mimicking animal movements (which Yoga is fundamentally based on), working with partners and in teams to build strength, improve balance and increase concentration and playing Yoga games. All classes incorporate breath awareness and meditation / visualisation, which can equip children as they grow older to deal with exams, relationships, work or any other external pressures in life. After all, awareness is one of the keys to building a strong relationship with oneself.
